Jimmy Brown Elementary News - September 2024

9.03.2024

Happy September!

As we enter the fourth week of this school year, we want to thank all of you for your support so far this year. We have had many ups and downs already. Thank you for the support of your children as they start another year of school, and also thank you for the support of our staff as we work through our loss.

This month will be a full one with many happenings going on at JBE. We have screeners starting tomorrow, picture day, and parent/teacher conferences.

Mrs. Kari & Mrs. Laura Brooke

From The Counselors-

This month students will be learning about PROBLEM SOLVING.

PROBLEM SOLVING TIPS FOR HOME-

  • Write down a problem and brainstorm how to solve it.

  • Scavenger hunt, a fun way to engage your child in problem solving.

  • Help your child gather materials to build an outside shelter. This is a creative activity to do together.

Word of the Month-

Courageous- to be brave

Challenge your child to be courageous throughout the week.

Grandparents Day

Students at JBE will celebrate Grandparents Day September 11th-13th.  Grandparents are invited to join their students for breakfast on the dates listed below.  Due to limited seating, we are unable to accommodate more than 2 grandparents per student.  We will also not be able to accommodate younger siblings guests at this time.  We ask that no outside food be brought for Grandparents Day; however, adults are welcome to purchase a meal from our cafeteria.  Adult meals are $3.25 each; please do not send money for adult meals in advance.   Breakfast may be purchased with cash or check.

Please RSVP for Grandparents Day no later than Tuesday, 9/10/2024 by returning the form that was sent home on Friday.

SCSD Student Athletic Event Expectations

PAWS

With Bulldog football kicking off this week, we wanted to remind our JBE families of the behavior expectations at athletic events:

  • Bags and belongings: No bags or backpacks are allowed for students. All belongings are subject to search.

  • Supervision: Students in 6th grade or below must be accompanied by an adult at all times. JBE students will not be allowed to enter the game without an adult.

  • Restricted areas: Students cannot access behind bleachers, practice fields, or tennis courts. The grassy areas and pavement around concessions are not play areas - students should not be in this area and will be asked to return to the bleachers.

  • Seating: Students must remain seated in bleachers unless visiting the concession stand or restroom.

  • Behavior: No horseplay, games, or throwing objects. Applaud during introductions, accept officials' decisions, and avoid offensive behavior.

  • Appearance: No full face painting, derogatory slogans, bare chests, or extreme clothing.

  • Respect: Avoid throwing trash, negative comments, or criticism. Stay off the playing field, and respect public property and officials.

  • Pets: No pets are allowed inside the facility.

September Testing

Importance of Attendance: Your child's attendance on these days is crucial. Absences may impact their ability to demonstrate their full potential. Please make every effort to ensure that your child is present for these assessments.

Preparing for Success: To help your child feel prepared and confident, we encourage you to:

  • Ensure Adequate Rest: A well-rested child is better equipped to focus and perform their best.

  • Arrive on Time: Prompt arrival allows for a smooth start to the assessment.

  • Practice Assessment Skills: We have provided a helpful online resource where your child can practice similar assessment questions. Please visit https://atlasportal.org/families.html to access these practice materials.

We believe that with your support and your child's dedication, they will be well-prepared to succeed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.

Conferences are a great time to learn more about your child's progress and ask any questions you may have. We look forward to visiting with you!

Attendance Touchdowns

We're excited to announce a new attendance initiative called "Attendance Touchdowns"!

This fun and engaging challenge rewards classes that maintain excellent attendance throughout the week.

How it Works:

  • Goal: Classes will strive to achieve a 95% or better attendance rate for the week.

  • Rewards: For each week a class reaches the 95% attendance goal, their class marker will be moved 10 yards closer to the "touchdown zone."

  • Incentives: Once a class "scores a touchdown" by reaching the end zone, they will earn a class-wide incentive chosen by the students.

Let's work together to make our school a place where attendance is valued and celebrated!
